Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, the 'place of the rising sun', is one of South Africa's newest and fastest growing provinces. With spectacular mountains, canyons, green forests and sprawling lowveld, this province is one not to be missed. The main tourist attraction, however, is South Africa’s oldest and largest National Park, the famous Kruger, with paved roads, rest camps and the opportunity to see a wide range of animals including the ‘Big Five’ in their natural habitat. Please see Kruger's own section for more details.

In the 19th century the province was heavily mined for gold. As the gold mining diminished the main industry become timber farming. Now vast plantations of eucalyptus and pine trees add to the beauty of the region. In the eastern Drakensberg forests, waterfalls and the pleasant small towns of Graskop, Sabie and White River offer awesome adventure activities, whilst hikers will enjoy the Blyde River with its amazing flowers and bird life.
